In popular thinking, prophets predict the future, but in Scripture, they have a more complex job. Although at times they look to the future-sharing visions of God's Kingdom and glimpses of heaven-they also warn of evils to come. But the prophet's most important task is to call the people back to relationship with God, to lives of mercy and acts of justice.
