Our Mystery Reader Event ~ Building the Beloved Community at Home

Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Sunday March 28th, the Parent group working toward Building the Beloved Community, which encourages diversity and inclusivity hosted a family friendly event. During the time together we enjoyed a scavenger hunt and our Mystery Reader read the story: "All the Colors We Are." Then, our families were invited to talk about skin color and invited to frost delicious cookies in the shape of hands created for this event by Village Sweets and Karen Lee. We also enjoyed music videos and a video reading of the story: "The Day You Begin." done by the author, Jacqueline Woodson.

Everyone enjoyed the time together and the conversations that were inspired.

Be on the lookout for our next event: A Book Drive focused on Diversity

This event will be a book drive to add books to our classrooms and school library that focus intentionally on offering more diverse characters and stories.
