The Giving Tree

During this season of Advent, as we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ's birth, let us remind one another of the unconditional love we receive from God—a love that inspires us to extend kindness and generosity to those around us. To share this Divine Love with others, we invite you to participate in the Giving Tree.  Brighten Someone's Christmas by taking a name from The Giving Tree. Each name represents an individual being served by one of four organizations we are partnering with.   By choosing a name, you have the opportunity to fulfill a wish or need expressed by someone. Your thoughtful gift will not only bring joy to their Christmas but also reflect the boundless love that God has for each of His children.

The organizations we will be working with, this year, are supporting the elderly, children, moms, adult individuals living with mental illness and families. You are encouraged to take the name of a person, purchase their gift request and return the gift (without wrapping) to our parish or rectory by the weekend of December 13th-15th.

The House of the Good Shepherd- Founded in Chicago in 1859, the House of the Good Shepherd has opened its doors and hearts to women and children who face unimaginable trauma and fear. Their holistic transitional housing and family violence recovery programs empower women and children to leave behind the cycle of violent homes, step out of poverty, and embrace a future full of hope and independence. House of the Good Shepherd welcomes survivors of violence and abuse regardless of race, ethnic origin, economic status, marital status, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or physical, cognitive, or developmental ability. All are offered love, compassion, and respect.

We will have tags for gifts for the children and for the women at the shelter.

Thresholds- At Thresholds, they provide intensive at-home mental health services to individuals living with severe mental illness in the community and in 5 group homes. They connect their clients to critical housing, healthcare, job coaching, nutrition and community resources. They help members find and live a meaningful and healthy life as defined by them. Providing hope for recovery and coming alongside members in a respectful, collaborative manner to help them reclaim their lives and regain a positive sense of self.

Angel’s Closet- an organization serving the needs of families with limited income. Angel’s closet offers reduced household items and clothes to all in need. Each year, Angel’s closet sponsors a Holiday party for the families they serve. Your gift donation will go to a child in need.

Little Sisters of the Poor- Founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan, the Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious, serving the elderly poor in over 30 countries.

The mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor is to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to Himself. Little Sisters of the Poor are asking for items needed by those whom they are caring for.

This year the Sisters are asking for Raisin Bran Cereal, Plain Cheerios, Rice Krispies cereal and Cornflakes. They also are asking for Ensure, Mouthwash, Tissues, Men’s razors and Raisin Bread for the adults they care for.

Please consider participating in The Giving Tree and Brighten Someone’s Christmas with God’s love.
