Panoramic Adventures With the Pangelic Harp and Steelpan Duo

The Pangelic (harp and steel drum) duo offers audiences a fresh and unique blend of sonorities rarely heard in the world of music. This one-of-a-kind duo steps outside conventional boundaries, playing classics arranged by the duo, original compositions, folk music, and jazz standards with improvisation arranged to compliment each instrument. Steelpan virtuoso Liam Teague offers a color palette of diverse sounds, while harpist Faye Seeman, known for her musical versatility on the harp, provide a tapestry of creative ideas for the duo. The Pangelic Duo can be heard in recital at Northern Illinois University, on youtube and  Instagram videos, at www.northernillinoisuniveristy@edu., at master classes at colleges and universities, and concertizing throughout the Midwest. Together the spectrum of resonances created by these stellar musicians leaves listeners asking for more.

Faye Seeman is established as one of the most versatile harpists in the Midwest. She is principal harpist with the Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra, is on the faculty of Wheaton College, Northern Illinois University, and Northeastern Illinois University. She has played with many area ensembles, such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Fulcrum Point, the Elgin Symphony, and the Illinois Philharmonic, to name a few. An avid explorer of instrumental combinations not typically heard, Faye established both the Kithara flute, cello and harp trio and the Zig Zag jazz harp quartet(harp, piano, bass and drums). Her partnership with Liam Teague in the Pangelic Duo is her latest adventure in musical explorations. Faye has three recordings to her name, along with many publications of her arrangements for the Kithara Trio through Lyon and Healy Harps. Summers Faye can be found teaching and performing at the Midwest Harp Festival and at the Birch Creek Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin.

Liam Teague is Professor of Music and Head of Steelpan studies at Northern Illinois University, where he also directs the renowned NIU Steelband. Hailed as the “Paganini of the steelpan”, his commitment to demonstrating the great musical possibilities of the steelpan has taken him throughout the world He has received many award from his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago, including the Hummingbird National Award and the Ansa McAl Caribbean Award for excellence. He has also performed with many diverse ensembles, which include the National Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan National Symphony, Czech National Symphony to name a few. Liam serves as arranger for the Nutrien Silver Stars Steel Orchestra at Panorama, the most celebrated steelband competition in the world, has numerous original compositions published , and has many recordings to his credit. Most recently, Liam was awarded the honor of being selected as NIU Board of Trustees Professor, Professor of Presidential Research, Scholarship and Artistry Professor.
