Jeremy Kiolbassa, Director of Music Ministry
Jeremy Kiolbassa is a dynamic and engaging performer, specializing in classical and sacred music. His leadership style is characterized by his energy and ability to engage both volunteers and professionals alike. His playing is defined by bold yet tasteful registrations, sensitive accompaniments, and virtuosic improvisations. In high school he had the privilege of singing under the baton of two great conductors, Scott Arkenburg and Gloria Brown. He went on to attend VanderCook College of Music. While there, he was a pupil in the piano studio of Mary Ann Krupa, studied voice with Joseph Martorano (Lyric Opera), and choral conducting and pedagogy with Dr. Robert Sinclair. He currently studies organ performance with Dr. Elizabeth Naegele at Moody Bible Institute.
Matthew Herek, Associate Director of Music
Matthew Herek joined the music ministry team at St. Ben's in February of 2015. His primary role is the 6:30pm Sunday Night ensemble. Since moving to Chicago in 2001, Matt has worked at a number of parishes in Chicago including: St. Vincent DePaul, St Luke's (River Forest), St. Matthias, and St. Joseph's (Libertyville). Matt's primary training in liturgy and music began in 1991 while a high school student in the Diocese of Saginaw, MI and continued through college at St. Therese of Lisieux in Lansing, MI. Matt holds degrees in engineering and higher education administration from Michigan State University. He is a passionate fan of his MSU Spartans and enjoys watching and being involved in sports. Matt resides in Uptown with chocolate lab Mia who he adopted from a rescue in 2004.
